When LEGO first produced this set, it was worth about 270 dollars but now it goes for about 1800 dollars and above on auction sites. This is almost a 700% increase. This just goes to show how popular this set is.


When it was first released in 2002, the Imperial Star Destroyer was the biggest LEGO set in the world. It is 94 inches in length which is 3 feet! This makes it taller than most babies. This set has 3096 pieces. This set also came with a Rebel Blockade Runner mini model which would allow you to act out Star Wars IV: A New Hope's opening scenes. 


The actual design of the set is very clean. It is made up of mostly grey blocks with the exception of blue-colored blocks for the engine of the rocket. It also utilized magnets to hold up the wings, a very daring move at the time. Without even referencing the number of pieces, the LEGO Imperial Star Destroyer was and is still impressive.

THE ULTIMATE BATTLE FOR CHIMA & LEGO CITY GIANT PACK

Technically, the largest LEGO set ever is the Ultimate Battle for CHIMA however it was never released commercially. It was the grand prize during a Legends of Chima competition that took place in (July) 2015. The competition was hosted by the LEGO Club Magazine. The Ultimate Battle for CHIMA had a whopping 10004 pieces. Although it was made up of smaller pre-existing sets, it still deserves some acknowledgment.
