So we bought the Notre Dame light kit, together with the ones for Rivendell, Christmas Tree and Enterprise D. Very neat and orderly box, with numbered bags for all the individual steps. This lighting kit is meant to be applied to a finished build, but doesn't require a whole lot of deconstruction work. Be prepared however for quite a long and sometimes tricky process to get it just right, especially hiding the cables behind bricks and tiles, and also leading them through small spaces between plates. I think we worked on it for about 3-4 hours, in one sitting with 2 experienced builders. We actually enjoyed the process, especially if you look at it as an extension of working on the LEGO set. Instructions can be found on internet and they clearly show what to do in step-by-step photo's, no problems there whatsoever. This set has quite a few LED strips, and some lights in LEGO pieces that are supplied with the kit. Although I was a bit skeptical at first about how the strips would look, they are mostly worked away from direct view, and the ones that are visible (for example in the towers) are less distracting than I thought. A lot of care and thought was put into the dimensions/length etc. I think in all, the right choices were made what to light and what not, and also the components for the different parts of the structure.
