Like others have mentioned, if you light up the Christmas tree car, the tree will no longer rotate. We opted to skip this car's lights so that the tree would still function. I wish the lights went around the perimeter of the car instead. We found a way to make the lights basically do this, but it wasn't perfect.
It's great and the lights are cool and they flash along the side of carriages which was nice touch.
I'm guessing the kit was done without the intention of actually being used on the train track which is the downfall. As mentioned in another review you can't use the track unless you disable the Christmas Tree on the train. The Grey Cog underneath can be easily removed to stop the tree going round.
Another issue is you need to place the battery pack somewhere if you're going to use the train on the track. You'll see in the picture, video supplied my is just on the back of the carriage.
I mainly did all this for my 2yr old son who is nuts about trains and lights! He loves it so it was a successful outcome. (you can see his hands in the video).
For a display I'd give it 5 stars but for actual use I dropped the star as there is a lot of cables to hide and then sorting to do to get it to run on a track! You have to pray it doesn't come off now as all the small cables interconnect to each carriage too. Could be a nightmare if it crashes.
All in all the sound and lights are great and fun for the kids. Maybe me too! 😉🎄🎅
Every thing works well however, needs some modifications for combining with moving train and it is not possible to switch off sound ( sound version)
